How we calculate it
Take inbound calls per week and turn them into a month by multiplying by 52 divided by 12. Missed calls are the share you do not answer. Missed new-customer calls are that number times the new-customer share. Jobs lost are those calls times the booking rate, times the share you do not win back from voicemail. Revenue lost is jobs lost times your average job value. A year is twelve of those months.
Counts on the result are shown to one decimal place. Dollars are shown as whole dollars. The math itself is not rounded until it is displayed.
What the data says
Missed calls statistics for home services start with a gap. In the Service Direct Home Service Call Performance Report, owners estimated they answer 97% of calls. The measured answer rate was 66%.
Invoca found that 27% of calls to home services businesses are not answered, which is a 73% answer rate, and labels that figure as platform data for larger businesses. The same Invoca article says less than 3% of callers who get pushed to voicemail leave a message.
411 Locals' 2016 study of 85 small businesses found 62% of calls unanswered. That study is from 2016.
